Aussie Curves - BLUE

I'm blue, laadi di laadi da di di...

I don't give blue enough credit. I have never thought I was much of a blue wearer until recently.
So when I checked my wardrobe I was surprised to discover that I had a couple of options.
My heart said my blue sailor dress but the weather said something a little more practical.

The thing I love most about blue is being able to mix it with some complimentary colours like RED.

This is especially fun when it comes to colour blocking and tights.

So lets jump straight into it.

This week my outfit is practical, pretty cost effective and down right comfy.

My dress was a bargain from Best and Less.

With the introduction of the brand Lilly and Lou, Best and Less have really come leaps and bounds with their plus sizes. They offer a great range which competes with some of the more expensive bigger women's clothing boutiques. This sassy little dress only cost me $35, when an equivalent skater dress would cost around $80 at other places. They have a range of colours including a leopard print that I couldn't resist picking up for $40.

I put on my favourite pair of we love colours red tights and my black leather boots from Iboman Australia on Bridge Rd in Richmond. A massive shout out to Iboman. I bought another pair of shoes from there and when they had a fault they went above and beyond to get them fixed for me.

In hindsight I might have added some chunky beads but I lack confidence when it comes to accessories.  I would love suggestions on accessorising this outfit in the comments...

Aussie Curves - Sparkle

BLING BLING BLING!!!

This week is a quickie as I am a little behind schedule and the world needs me to focus on other things this week.

So here it is baby! Sparkles and Big Hair.

I am not a huge bling person but after reading all the other blogs and seeing such fantastic outfits I think I may need to lash out, well more than I did.

This week I decided to splash out on a little purchase. My coral sequinned bolero. I bought it on ebay.
There is one left in size 14 if you want it: Coral Sequinned Bolero.
It's not normally a colour I would go for but it is so cute. I matched it with my city chic apple shape skinny jeans, a black singlet and my gladiator heals.

See you sparkling next week!

Aussie Curves - Celebrity Copycat

The JOY of pretending to be someone else.

This week for the Aussie Curves Challenge
we had to get some inspiration from a celeb for our look.
My daily inspiration for feeling Fatbulous is none other than Beth Ditto, and I was considering slapping on some serious eye make up and getting some shots of me rocking out in black fish-nets and my underwear.
But as much as I love Beth (and I haven't ruled out a blog post inspired by her yet) I thought it might be more interesting to try someone
a little or even a lot not like me.

After taking several online quizzes
suggesting that Jessica Simpson and Sienna Miller were my type of girls in the fashion department
I found this wonderful redhead.
I love her for her red hair, and the more I researched her for this blog, the more I loved her.

*Those quizzes are clearly scientifically formulated for accurate results

You only have to come across images like this of her 100th birthday celebration to understand what a woman and fashion icon she was.

I love this facial expression

Lucille Ball was a comedian by trade and by nature, but she did so many other amazing things.
Lucille Ball was the first woman to ever run a major television studio, I love Lucy was one of the first programs ever filmed in front of a live TV audience and she ran her own comedy school.

I started with what I had in my wardrobe and thought I would piece together a look with a focus on makeup and hairstyle.
The one thing I struggled with is fake eyelashes. I have not yet managed to successfully stick a pair of those babies on.
My hair became a bit of a modern interpretation, although I did style it with my grandmothers 1950s rollers.

Hair and Makeup

I set my hair in rollers. My bangs I curled forward, I did a top layer going backwards and then the sides and back going down. I set my hair a bit damp, blasted it with a hot hair dryer; and in 1950s fashion wrapped a silk scarf around my hair while I made lunch.
After lunch I took the rollers out, ruffled up the curls and then pulled up the sides with side combs.
I am a simpleton when it comes to makeup but I did do some research about Lucille's makeup. I did a fairly basic foundation base, making sure I coated my eyelids and lips. I paid attention to my eyebrows by giving them a bit of a natural dark brown line with a small brush.
My eyeliner was with a charcoal pencil on my top lash line, I curved it to try and make my eyes look rounder and put in a little kick at the edge of my eye. I added a little colour on my contour and then used a black mascara on upper and lower lashes.
My lips are red and naturally bow shaped. In order to get Lucy's lips I rounded out my lip shape with a pencil and coloured my lips in with it before applying a lip stick.

My Ensemble

I bought my dress from the Lovely Miss Mel online. Miss Mel is based in Brisbane and stocks a great range of 14+ retro dresses. You can order this one here

My shoes are from Raben in Sydney. They had so many different versions. I could have bought a pair of every colour. I have had them for a few years now and they are comfortable for shoes so high.
They also rock the hell out of my calves.

My little skin toned bolero was acquired through a clothing swap run by Chub Republic Melbourne. A group of awesome Fatties who challenge fat stereotypes and fat phobia through a range of fun activities. If you are in Melbourne - Get the hell involved!!!

This dress isn't complete without a net petticoat. I also bought this from Miss Mel.

I had so much fun putting this blog together.

Thank you to my  beautiful boy who played fashion photographer...

Aussie Curves - RED

I thought it was about time I joined the blogging world and what better way to get started than to join a weekly FATshion challenge to keep me motivated.

I love clothing, shoes, jewellery, makeup, shopping, socks, hairdressers, tights, frilly undies, you name it I am into it. Except I am a total amateur when it comes to putting an outfit together, I know nothing about makeup except that it sticks to my face and most of the time my outfits range from crazy coloured clown to black on black rock chick. I am fickle with my style and I don't read fashion magazines. I spend my time immersed in art books or covered in paint. Most of the time I am evil to my clothes. I am rough with them, I get whatever medium I am working with all over them and God help me I dress for comfort. What I love about dressing myself is it's a major part of my life, I do it everyday (mostly) and outfits or individual items have the power to make me feel confident, classy, and best of all my favourite feeling sexy as hell. So welcome to my world Autour Couture...

*little note Autour means ROUND in French and couture was a rhyming fashion term I figured sounded good, but I should add that I don't sew either, so couture is probably a total lie.

My first week in the Aussie Curves challenge - RED.

THE RED SHOES

I must admit that this week I am away from home with only my trusty favourites stuffed into my suitcase, so actually putting an ensemble together wasn't going to be an option. Thankfully my trusty favourite red ballet flats are always a part of my easy go anywhere outfit. It seems totally appropriate that one my favourite films as a child was The Red Shoes and I wonder if subconsciously it influenced me when I bought them.

I love my red ballet flats
because I can and do wear
them with just about anything,
dresses, skirts, shorts, leggings
but I think they look their happiest
complimenting my tight black jeans.

The other red style motif I take everywhere with me is my hair. For years my hair was dark brown/almost black and recently I thought it was time for a change.

I love how shiny and bright it gets in the sun, and while having bright red hair sometimes compliments my clothing colour choices it never excludes any.

Next week I promise a little more of me than my feet and my head...

For those who are interested my red shoes are from the Diana Ferrari outlet that is WAY too close to my house and my hair was done by the lovely Tracey from DTM on High St in Thornbury.
